Infiltrator #4: Local Wax (Arlington VA) Bill Asp
...the next record is on the Artyfacts label. "Test" by BOMIS PRENDEN (artyfacts 3-01951) is a project unfortunately more brilliant in its conception than its execution. Imagine a 9" flexidisc bearing a virtual blitzkrieg of uncommon tinker toy (literally! Bomis Prendin instrument shops at Toys R Us) musiques and muzaques, some quite charming ("Rastamunkies" and "Aremis Salinas" are my particular faves) - but to my dismay the project devolves to the amorphous and the abstract much too soon for my liking. The vocals are very distinct in an attractive high tenor and at least the band had the ultimat good sense to offer 24 minutes worth of their ideas at a price less than you will pay for the 5-10 minutes offered by other artists of basement band stature. A brave if slightly half-baked recipe, Bomis Prendin provides a possible new delicacy for the D.C. progressive music scene.
